PreK Class (Ages 3-5)

Description

I have a lot of parents ask me what is a good age to start piano or guitar lessons. I usually recommend 6-7 years old to allow the fine motor to develop. So the question is: what is a good interim activity between our typical Tots with Tempo classes and lessons? 

Our newest class is designed with just this in mind. In this class, we'll use the familiar songs from Tots with Tempo but take everything to the next level.

We will introduce iconic notation, or pictoral representations of notes to express long/short sounds. We will build upon our singing skills by teaching solfege and the Curwen hands signs using the Kodaly music pedagogy. We will use more melodic instruments such as handbells, chimes, and boomwhackers to introduce the concept of pitch and melody. We will do weekly rhythm challenges, experiencing them through auditory, visual, and kinesthetic styles.

This incredible class will be meeting on Wednesdays from 1:30-2:15 at our Alexandria Hybla Valley location, located at Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church at 2001 Sherwood Hall Lane. Classes start September 13th--REGISTER TODAY!
